THE DORMOUSE: A Wonderland Mandala
Curiouser and Curiouser. The Geometry of a Dream.
“The Dormouse” is a multi-layered sculptural odyssey into the heart of Wonderland. Inspired by the surreal landscapes of Lewis Carroll’s masterpiece, this mandala reimagines the humble mouse not just as a creature, but as a guardian of a complex, rhythmic dreamscape where time and space fold into one another.
The Vision: Through the Looking Glass
This piece is a study in Optical Architecture. Much like the shifting corridors of Wonderland, the “Dormouse” uses depth and repetition to pull the viewer into a state of hypnotic wonder.
-
The Fibonacci Spiral: At the core of this mandala is the Golden Ratio. By using the Fibonacci formula to dictate the expansion of the layers, I have created a “Natural Fractal” that mirrors both the organic growth of a seashell and the chaotic beauty of a tea party at the edge of time.
-
Architectural Lace: Taking a cue from the parametric curves of Zaha Hadid, the “Dormouse” features delicate, laser-sharp cutouts that mimic high-fashion lace or futuristic metalwork.
-
The Layered Narrative: Utilizing my Cricut technology, I have engineered multiple tiers of high-grade paper. As the layers stack, they create a 3D topographic map—a physical representation of the “Rabbit Hole” where every shadow tells a new story.
Technical Mastery: Precision and Play
-
Digital Drafting: Creating a complex, multi-vectored mandala file in Illustrator, specifically tailored for 3D layering.
-
The Precision Cut: Using the Cricut to ensure each infinitesimal curve of the “Dormouse” is cut with mathematical accuracy.
-
Manual Alignment: Hand-layering each tier to create a physical “vortex” of shadow and light.
