WAVE: The Ludi Naturae Series
Parametric Fluidity. The Architecture of the Horizon.
“Wave (01)” is my absolute favorite creation—a piece so close to my heart that it anchors the walls of my own home and serves as my signature gift to those I love most. Inspired by the “Ludi Naturae” collection by Iris van Herpen, this artwork explores the blurred line between the digital landscape and the organic pulse of the ocean.
The Vision: Architectural Ebb and Flow
This work is a study in Parametricism—the belief that the natural world is a series of interconnected, fluid systems rather than static boxes.
-
The Van Herpen Influence: Much like the avant-garde “Sensory Seas” garments, this piece mimics the rhythmic, high-frequency vibrations found in water and air. It captures the exact moment a wave begins to break, frozen in a state of eternal grace.
-
The Layered Dimension: Utilizing my Cricut cutting technology, I translate complex digital vector data into physical layers of high-grade poster board. By stacking these “topographic” layers, I create a 3D relief that plays with light and shadow, giving the “Wave” a sense of deep, structural volume.
-
Minimalist Power: Whether executed in pure, gallery white or the sophisticated transition of silver and black, the focus remains on the Geometry of Motion. It is a piece that feels both weightless and indestructible.
Technical Mastery: Digital to Physical
-
Vector Drafting: Designing the parametric “wave-map” in Illustrator, influenced by the Fibonacci spiral.
-
Precision Cutting: Using the Cricut to ensure each of the multiple layers is cut with surgical accuracy.
-
Manual Assembly: Hand-layering the poster board to create a physical “contour map” of energy and light.
