LADY IN PINK: The Meditation of Vulnerability
A Pandemic Reflection. A Study of Inner Peace and Exposed Truth.
“Lady in Pink” is a profound visual diary of a global turning point. Started in 2020 during the initial COVID-19 lockdowns, this painting began as a meditative exercise—a way to find stillness and internal calm while the world outside fell into silence.
The Vision: Calm vs. Raw Reality
The contrast in this piece is intentional and striking. While the subject’s expression and the soft, blooming pink hues suggest a state of deep meditation and tranquility, the anatomical details tell a different story.
-
Exposed Nerves: Parts of the figure’s anatomy are revealed, stripped back to show the “nerves” of the human experience. This represents the vulnerability we all felt during the isolation of the pandemic—the raw, sensitive reality hidden beneath a calm exterior.
-
The Pink Palette: The use of soft magentas and blush tones serves as a “healing” layer, wrapping the exposed vulnerability in a cocoon of warmth and compassion.
-
A Living Work: Currently hanging in my own living room, this piece remains a “work in progress.” It serves as a daily inspiration as I develop new ways to bridge the gap between 2D painting and 3D reality.
The Future: Incorporating the Third Dimension
As I “brew” new concepts for this piece, I am looking toward my Stone-Couture and Acrylic Skin techniques to bring “Lady in Pink” into the physical world.
-
3D Evolution: My vision is to incorporate sculptural elements—perhaps 3D “nerve” structures or textured “petals”—that break the boundary of the canvas, turning this meditative portrait into a multi-sensory experience.
Technical Mastery: The Foundation
-
Dry Brush Oil: Utilized to capture the soft, porcelain skin and the serene, closed-eyed expression of the meditative state.
-
Anatomical Detail: A precise, almost clinical rendering of the internal structures, contrasting the softness of the oil with the harshness of exposed reality.
